Anime Spring Season Impression part 6 (final)

This is the last season first ep impression I’ll do. I’ll try to pick to 2 anime from the entire season for the usual episode reviews. Deadman Wonderland might end up being one of my choices.

Deadman Wonderland

In term of action anime, there is no doubt that this show is the best one you’ll find in this season. You might recognize the similarity of Deadman Wonderland to Eureka 7 as it is from the same manga artist. You have Ganta Higarashi, boy wrongly convicted for murdering his entire classmate, and Shiro, weirdo and childish girl who seems to know Ganta leading to another anime cliché that is the forgotten childhood friendship. A person in red clothes floating in the sky killed Ganta’s every classmates using his blood to destroy them. That person turns some of his blood into a gem and inserts it into Ganta’s chest leaving him alive. Reason why to like this anime: People actually die!! The story is pretty dark, going from the murder of an entire classroom to angry parents beating the shit out of Ganta to the usage of a prison as a zoo attraction. Interestingly, Ganta displays some supernatural powers of his own at the end of the episode. He ends unconsciously up using his own blood as a weapon. I would like to able to use that power (lol). I kinda laugh at the poor dude’s shitty situation where he’s being framed by Takami his own lawyer who happened to be the director of the prison. It’s funny how no one had any suspicions on that one. There’s a great deal of conspiration around Tamaki for sure. Considering the anime industry, lately, has had a ton of epic fails when it comes to adapting shounen manga series into anime, I would say that Deadman Wonderland is very well done. The animation is great even though I would like to see less censorship when the show is showing decapitated body parts (lol). As a reader of the manga, I can say this: It gets better! 9.5/10

PS: Try to find Tamaki’s childhood in the ending song. HAHAHA

Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai

A ghost of a deceased girl called Memma is hunting her friend who turned into a hikikomori after her death…ROFL! Jintan, the young hikikomori, seems to be unable, unlike his other friends, to move on in his life. So, Memma wants him to reunite their friends to help realize their wishes. It’s quite an amazingly sad story added with some comedy that involves awkward situations as no one but Jintan can see the girl. Jintan realises his wish is to apoligize to Memma. Memma can still touch things and people, so we know that it’s not imaginary from the poor hikikomori. It’s amazing how his dad doesn’t seem to try making him go out. Don’t expect refreshing characters out of this show. Memma has that amazingly annoying voice. There is this one girl, Anjou, who just fit the tsundere characteristic as she tries to help Jintan (she obviously likes him) but because she acts like a tsundere, Jintan takes her aid as a negatively thing since she’s unable to be “dere”. Awkward friendship…HAHA Awkwardness isn’t the type of comedy I find great but the writing is pretty solid enough to overlook that. It’s a nice charming and touching anime involving the re-built of life and friendship. If you need something to replace Kimi ni Todoke, it’s an anime for you. 8/10

Hyouge Mono

Here is another anime set in the sengoku era. Unlike Sengoku Otome, the show is not bad, but it’s not good. TOTALLY MEDIOCRE! How interesting can it really be to have a messenger of Oda Nobunaga and tea master as your main character. The whole comedy is focused on Furuda Sasuke’s obsession with rare artefacts and fashion mockery. I wanted to go to sleep as the jokes in this show is nearly unfunny. 5/10 but hey, the main character’s moustache gets a 8/10.

Ao no Exorcist

Ao no Exorcist is the story of Okimura Rin and his twin brother, Yukio. Rin, a problem child, lives in the church and tries to prove he can mature as he gets several jobs but fails to keep them all. As he starts seeing demons, Rin discovers that he is the son of Satan! That’s pretty much it for the episode (lol). The entire episode practically just covered half of the first chapter and I don’t expect the 2nd ep to go beyond the end of Chapter 1. I’m not sure if the anime going for 24 episodes. I’d like to point the fact that Yukio is poorly animated. He looks like fat-ass for a character considered to be an athletic guy. The animation is so-so. It’s a style that would fit a 90 min movie but not sure how it do for a tv series. I’ll give this episode a 7/10 because the lack of important content, but the manga would get an 8.5/10 just to tell you how good it could.
