Anime Summer 2011 Preview

Is Summer 2011 as strong as Spring 2011? Many persons on the net said that Summer seemed lackluster. However, even though Spring 2011 was strong, there wasn’t much anime that truly stood out from the bunch. There were several good anime but no amazing or great anime either. While the average anime quality of Summer 2011 seems low, I think there will be a few anime that will stand out more than any anime from Spring.

Perverts will also find enjoyment in this season with so many moe and loli series. Anime Sport fans will definitely be disapointed during this season as the only sport anime is Ro-Kyu-Bu! (lol) which is more likely targetted for pedobears.

Stats:
# of anime in this post: 21
# of action anime: 8
# of loli anime: 9-10

Kamisama Dolls

Synopsis: Kyouhei, after moving away to Tokyo from his old town to get away from the events that happened, is on a goukon with his friends, including his old neighbor, Shiba. After drinking for a whole night, he and Shiba discover a dead, bloody, body in the elevator. He is told by his younger sister, Utao with her Kamisama Doll, that Aki, an old friend, and his Doll, are the culprits responsible.

This anime seems to be a bi-polar anime since, in the 2 sides of the story, you have a very cute part about a little sister meeting her brother in the outside world and a very obscure part about the brother’s dark past that relates to deaths. To mix Moe and Violence, will it work in this anime? Maybe, who knows? I think it’s worth to take a look. Plus: from what I’ve seen of the trailer, the music seems like it’s going to be great.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Nurarihyon no Mago: Sennen Makyou

Synopsis: As he continues his ascension to the role of the Nura Clan’s leader, Nura Rikuo and his Hyakki Yakou must travel to Kyoto in order to face the Kyoto Youkai Clan’s reborn leader, Hagoromo Gitsune who was the former master of all spirits (I refuse to use the words “The Lord of Pandemonium” since it sounds lame) and the prime suspect of the death of Rikuo’s father, Rihan.

Well, a new director has been appointed to the anime. Hopefully, the second season will not disappoint like that horrible first season. Season 2 pretty much covers the good part of the source material. There is no excuse for shit. I’ve made my points in previous posts already, so there is no need for me to say more. Another bad anime will simply result in the death of the manga.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Usagi Drop

Synopsis: When Daikichi returns home for his grandfather’s funeral he meets an unfamiliar child in the garden. Later, his mother explains to him that Rin is grandfather‘s illegitimate daughter! The presence of the child causes embarrassment to all relatives and nobody wants to adopt her. Daikichi, annoyed by such attitude, decides to take care of her himself. How will the cohabitation between the bachelor and the quiet Rin evolve?

HAHA, Daikichi is a man among men (lol). What to expect from Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop)? Absolutely nothing but sheer cuteness and heart-warming moments. I’ve read the manga and I’ve loved every of it, even that controversial ending (but the anime will never reach that part anyway). This anime is definitly a must-watch in this season. If you like Kimi ni Todoke and kids, then this anime definitly fits for you.

LOL, the opening for this anime is pretty cute too.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Yuru Yuri

Synopsis: A comedy shoujo-ai about a group of schoolgirl friends.

LOL! A yuri version of Lucky Star…hmmm wouldn’t that be an oxymoron? The formula of this anime looks the same as A Channel or Lucky Star’s. I guess it’s watcheable, but it’s questionable whether or not the series is worth following. One thing is for sure: The song in the trailer annoys me!

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Blade

Synopsis: I have no idea what’s the real plot summary but I’m pretty sure it goes along the lines of “Blade goes to Japan.”

I’ve lost hope in Marvel/Madhouse Production long time ago.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

NO.6

Synopsis: The story takes place in the ideal city “NO.6″ in 2013. Shion was judged as having “highest-ranked intelligence” when he was two years old and was allowed to live in the luxurious area “Cronos”. On his twelfth birthday, he met a beautiful boy called “Nezumi,” who had escaped from a reformatory. Shion protected him, but the Public Security Bureau deprived Shion of all his privileges and expelled him from Cronos to “Lost Town”. Four years after the banishment, a mysterious accident leads Shion to the secret of the city NO.6.

This story is similar to Fractale but less silly and darker with the addition of a hint of Yaoi I can imagine the girls going KYAH!! Still, NO.6 seems like it’s worth watching. I do find interest in slice of life drama.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Natsume Yuujinchou Season 3

Synopsis: Natsume’s just an ordinary kid, except he can see spirits, just like his grandma Reiko could. Reiko, though, used to bully the spirits, and bound them to her will in the “Book of Friends”. Now that Natsume has inherited this book, a never-ending stream of spirits is coming after him. With the help of a spirit “cat” (who really just wants Natsume to die so he can have the book), Natsume spends his days dissolving the contracts that bind the spirits and trying not to get killed.

I loved the 2 first seasons of Natsume Yujiinchou and I don’t see a reason why I won’t like it. This anime is an amazing slice of life with some Youkai elements which automatically wins my approval. For those who haven’t watched the 2 first seasons, I strongly recommend you to do so since it’s only 13 episodes per seasons.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Sacred Seven

Synopsis: A “new school battle action” project by Sunrise. The tagline is “People’s memories change the world!”

Sunrise + Shounen High School Action = Fuck, this is pure mediocrity. I doubt that this anime will change the world or even stay in people’s memories (lol).

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi

Synopsis: Taito has been really sleepy lately, and keeps dreaming of a particular vampire who says she has given him her “poison”. Sometimes he even thinks he hallucinates her voice when he’s awake. But after surviving an accident that should have killed him, Taito’s world changes drastically and he realizes that his dreams are more real than he thought.

Remind you of something? This anime is based on the ongoing light novel written by the same guy who’s writing the Legend of The Legendary Heroes series. It’s seems sleeping is important in Takaya Kagami’s stories (lol). Well, in contrast to LOTLH, Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi doesn’t seem to be heavily censored with darkness which is cool. However, there’s much more moe elements and pantsu shots. I’m watching it because I really enjoyed Legend of The Legendary Heroes, but I’m not really expecting the same quality since magic might not match too well with cute high school students if you want to want a serious action anime. P.S.: The trailer’s english narrator is annoying!!

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Dantalian no Shoka

Synopsis: Hugh Anthony Disward inherits an old mansion and a personal library from his grandfather. In the basement of the mansion, he meets a mysterious girl, Dalian. She is a Dantalian and a gateway to “Dantalian’s bookshelf”, which stores the prohibited books of the demons. “Gensho (Illusory Books)”, the prohibited books, endanger the balance of the world, but people are fascinated by the taboo. Hugh and Dalian solve the cases involving Gensho with their ability to access the Dantalian bookshelf.

Adapted from the light novels written by the writer of Asura Cryin’…wait what? Isn’t that bad? Well, at least from the trailer, it doesn’t seem as bad as Asura Cryin’. I think this anime looks quite interesting and solid. If I have to make early comparison, then I’d have to think Tatakau Shisho-The Book of Bantorra without the breasts (lol).

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Manyuu Hikenchou

Synopsis: It is currently the Taiheimeji Era. It is a reign ruled by the Tokugawa shogunate. Inside this shogunate, there is a group of warriors that support the government. They are the Manyuu Clan.
In this current era, breasts mean everything. If you have breasts, you are guaranteed wealth and popularity. If you lack them, you are rarely considered “human”. Members of the Manyuu Clan help raise the future big breasts. Written on a secret scroll possessed by the clan, there is said to be various techniques on how to grow big and beautiful breasts.
Chifusa is to be successor of the clan. However, she takes the secret scroll and runs away with it, hoping to fight against the cruel world that the Manyuu Clan has created…

I don’t care how bad critically this anime will be. This is the best anime setting ever…BOOBS!! BOOBS!! BOOBS!! Oppai Daisuki!!!!!! *Dies from nose bleed*

……………………………………………………………………………………………

R-15

Synopsis: Takuto Akutagawa has a special ability for writing porn novels. He applies to Hirameki Gakuen a high school which only accepts people with “Unique” talent. Now he must chase his dream and direct his classmates to win an interclass competition. All while trying to create the perfect harem.

You know it’s the type of anime I’ll choose to do episodic reviews…Weird + Perverted + Harem + Funny. It’s weird, perverted and it’s a harem! If it succeeds to be funny, then chances are that I’ll pick it up for the blog. Glad to see an anime fitting my perverted taste! Interestingly, we find Haruna and Salas’ voices from Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? (Yummy) and at least 6 seiyus making their acting debut on R-15.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Mawaru Penguindrum

Synopsis: New project from the director of Revolutionary Girl Utena, Kunihiko Ikuhara. The story will center around the lives of three siblings: Kanba, Shouma, and Himari Takakura, with Himari as the female main character.

This is quite an intriguing anime. There’s not much information on this anime. From what I’ve seen of the 5 trailers that hints you a possibly hilarious comedy but also a dark or at least a serious plot, this definitely looks very interesting. It could be the biggest surprise of the season.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Blood-C

Synopsis: New Blood anime, a collaboration between Production IG and CLAMP.

While I do like to see a return from the Blood franchise, I do see the positiveness in Clamp’s participation. In fact, their new design for Saya is a bad start for my taste. With clamp, one thing is assured: “Beauty”. I don’t think the type of character designs they bring actually fits into Blood’s bloody and violent universe. If anything, Blood+ was already perfect with their characters.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Morita-san wa Mukuchi

Synopsis: Morita Mayu, a high school girl. She is extremely reticent and her silence and habit of looking at people’s eyes straightly sometimes cause misunderstanding. The reason behind it is not because she doesn’t like to talk nor because she has nothing to say. The reason she rarely speaks is due to the fact she thinks too much before speaking, thus losing the timing to speak altogether. But she lives a happy school life with her classmates.

Interesting character trait…The anime “only” needs to be good.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

The iDOLM@STER

Synopsis: According to the official website, a new anime based on Namco Bandai’s hit game series, The iDOLM@STER, has been announced.

Why?!?!?! Why did Rie Kugimiya have to appear again? -_- Honestly, I have no care about The Idolm@ster franchise. I just hope that the anime succeeds so that someone tries to make an AKB48 anime (lol).

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Ikoku Meiro no Croisée

Synopsis: During the second half of the 19th century, Europe became intrigued by the Japanese culture. A Japanese girl named Yune travels to France, where she started working in the lower parts of a town in Paris at a craft store called Enseignes du Roy. She and the store owner named Claude communicates with each other in order to get over their cultural differences. This is the story of Yune’s stay in Paris.

While this does look heart-warming, I can’t stop worrying that this anime will end in a way only Pedobear will approve.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Ro-Kyu-Bu!

Synopsis: Subaru Hasegawa is a high school freshman, he joins the basketball team but soon finds out the team is inactive because the captain is being suspected as a lolicon. He miraculously is entangled with the job of being the coach of an elementary schools basketball team. With these girls and their love for basketball Subaru will have a hard time getting acknowledged by each of them.

I can only feel bad for sport anime fans (lol). It would seem that the Sport genre have died in anime. Loli and Moe have made Sport their bitch (lol). Oh my… This simply looks bad. My head hurts from remembering Kodomo no Jikan.

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Kamisama no Memo-chou

Synopsis: Narumi is an assistant to detective Alice, a NEET teenage girl who stays in her pajamas and operates within her bedroom. She uses her vast network of people and the internet to solve cases. Will Alice be able to solve them in her PJs?

If anything, the last 6 anime of this post are the ones I’ve almost forgot adding (lol). Quite sad since this anime doesn’t deserve it. HEIL THE NEETs!!!!!! Did I just say that? BTW, this will be watchable or even good as long as Alice doesn’t start to annoy me by saying over and over stuffs like:

“Allow me to share with you the truth which I’ve reconstructed using the pieces of chaos I’ve collected from the Fountain Of Wisdom.” by Victorique from Gosick

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Nekogami Yaoyorozu

Synopsis: Koyama Yuzu is running an antique shop. Mayu, a cat god (nekogami), is living off Yuzu and leads an idle life playing games. Lots of other gods visit Mayu and enjoy merrymaking.

This is how you ruin an anime about spirits. It’s not worth my time. NEXT!!!!!!!!

……………………………………………………………………………………………

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni!

Synopsis: You can check out first season. I’m not pasting that huge chunk of a synopsis.

While I’m no fan of this anime, it does have some decent fanbase and so I’m not going to bash it since i didn’t even bother watching more than 2-3 episodes (lol). I’m sure some of you will like it.
